Good afternoon, Middleburg and West Snyder Elementary families!
While we hope you all are having an enjoyable summer, we are also excited to begin a new school year! Please note that this is an important message regarding the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Beginning this year both elementary buildings will be implementing a new disciplinary system. This system will include different levels of infractions. All minor incidents will be considered a level 1 infraction and will be handled by the classroom teacher. This is no different from how behaviors have been managed in the past. Where this system is different is when a child’s behavior escalates to a level 2 or a level 3 infraction. As behaviors intensify or continue, despite attempts to correct the behavior, both consequences for those actions and related services to support the needs of the student will intensify. This two-tiered approach is an attempt to eliminate undesirable behaviors while supporting the needs of the student and family. The building principal will assign points to individual students based upon the level of the violation and the attempts made to remedy the situation. With elementary students, assisting a student in learning from their mistakes is the goal of a discipline system. As the point total for students increases, greater levels of intervention are added for the student and family. Additionally, school-wide consequences may increase in attempt to find a consequence to help eliminate the behavior. When a student’s behavior rises to a level 2 or 3 infraction, a parent/guardian contact will be made. The infraction, consequence, and the point total will be communicated to the parent/guardian and the student. As a reward for positive behavior students can lose points from their cumulative totals by going periods of time without a discipline referral. Over time a student’s points can be eliminated with good behavior. Our hope is that few points need to be given throughout the year and that this change helps us have a very safe and productive learning environment for the 2024- 2025 school year.
To gain further information about the new elementary discipline system, please refer to your Student Handbook. The new Student Handbooks will be distributed during Back-To-School Night on August 14th. Building Principals will be available on Back-To-School Night to answer questions.
We hope to see you there!

Hello MWSD Families,
Today, Tuesday, October 11, there was an incident involving a firearm at Midd-West Middle School. At 7:45am, MWMS administration was made aware about a student possessing a firearm that was shown to several peers on the bus. Immediately, our school police, Officer Mall was contacted while the building principal, located the student. The student was escorted to the office where he was searched and interviewed by the school police and administration. This occurred prior to the school day starting. Upon further investigation and search, a firearm and ammunition were located, retrieved, and secured by Officer Mall. At that time, MWSD Police contacted Middleburg Police Department who arrived promptly to continue the investigation. A building sweep was conducted and an all clear was given by the authorities. The student left in police custody and will not be returning to school. At this time all students are safe and continuing their regular school day. We thank all individuals who reported this immediately to school officials. Please know student safety is our top priority and we will always follow up with leads that are reported. Because of the quick work and all clear from the authorities, we will continue to operate as normal. Any questions, please contact your child’s building.
Thank you for your continued support,
MWSD Adminstration
