Midd-West High School November 2024 Young American

vhMidd-West High School’s Young American for November 2024 is Veronica Hummel. She is the daughter of Wayne and April Hummel of Mount Pleasant Mills. Veronica serves in leadership roles as Senior Class Vice President, FFA Secretary, and National Honor Society Secretary. She was selected as the Student of the Month in 9th and 11th grade in addition to achieving Distinguished Honor Roll every year since 8th grade and earning the highest GPA in 10th and 11th grade. Veronica was the 1st Place Individual in Floriculture CDE at the FFA State Convention and a State Finalist and Winner for Diversified Horticulture Proficiency Award in FFA. Veronica operates her own greenhouse and floral business, Blessings from the Valley, which she applied for and received several grants to establish. She gives back to her community by being very active within her church and helping with their outreach programs like VBS, benefit meals, and other volunteer work. In addition, she has participated on various mission trips to West Virginia, Alaska, and the Philippines. Veronica enjoys playing volleyball, shopping, traveling, and spending time outside doing things like kayaking, fishing, hunting, and hiking. In the future, she is planning to stay in the Susquehanna Valley and expand her Blessings from the Valley business, where she grows her own cut flowers to use in floral arrangements. Veronica believes she was selected as a Young American because she always strives for perfection in all that she does even if it is not possible to attain. She puts in the effort and hard work no matter the energy it may take. She also shows compassion to other students within the school and helps them when needed. Veronica would like others to know that it is important to take time to enjoy the little things in life and realize all that we are blessed with as Americans, as she learned this past summer while on a mission trip in the Philippines. While on the other side of the world she was able to meet orphans that find joy in the little things like blowing bubbles with their hands after working in the garden. God's plan and purpose can easily be shown through the simple things in life if you take time to see them.
