Midd-West High School September 2024 Young American

BH

Midd-West High School’s Young American for September 2024 is Benjamin Hummel. He is the son of Jonathan and Pauline Hummel of Middleburg. Benjamin serves in leadership roles as the Senior Class President and National Honor Society President. He also is the president of his youth group. Benjamin has been chosen as the Student of the Month every year since 8th grade. In addition, he has been on the Distinguished Honor Roll every year since 8th grade and has been in the top three of his class all throughout high school. Benjamin participates in Cross Country and Track and Field. This past year, he was a State Champion in the 4x800 relay and a New Balance Nationals Qualifier in the 4x800 relay. Benjamin gives back to his community by helping with the Penns Creek Fire Company and at his church, Bunkertown Brethren Church, McAlisterville. He loves running, working, and doing outdoor activities. Following graduation, Benjamin plans to attend college to study sports communications and run at the collegiate level. He believes he was chosen as a Young American because of two things: his accomplishments and his character. Over his high school career, he has achieved high levels of success both academically and athletically that stand out. As a person, he is kind and respectful, and always tries to be a positive example to others. Benjamin would like others to know that his faith in Jesus Christ has changed who he is as a person and impacts how he lives. "No matter how hard you want it, somebody will want it more, I am somebody." - Steve Prefontaine and "I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me." - Galatians 2:20.
